I Have a Confession to Make
I admit ... for about a month I haven’t written anything (tweets are exceptional though). My mind was blank as paper. I really was sorta lost. Before, my excuse for not writing was because of the exams—but after it’s over, nothing changed.
While I was routinely writing articles, I guess I was boasting a little to my friends.
“I try to write twice a week.”
“C’mon, write too!”
“Look at my blog ... what do you think?”
Those were some of the things I said to my friends. And if you think it doesn’t sound like I was boasting, you’re probably right. It doesn’t sound like it, but feels differently in my heart when I say it.
My intention was really to motivate my friends to start writing. I guess somewhere along the process, something else came along. That feeling of being ‘higher’ than others, just because I write.
Besides boasting and a mind gone blank, it was also because I was lazy. I can’t lie to myself. I won’t write without motivation—for me, that’s being lazy. Me, who says to himself that he’s a writer, won’t write because he’s too lazy to do so? Pathetic!
The most hard one to overcome though, was the blank mind, or writer’s block: The condition in which a writer is forced to stop at writing, not because he/she can’t write (he has all the means), but rather because he has no idea what to write.
Eventually, after surfing the triple double-u’s, I found a good site that gave an advice on how to cure writers block. It turns out that you don’t need an idea to start writing. A writer just need to ‘write anything’. It means exactly that. Ideas will come over naturally, pouring inside your head. What mattered was that you just gotta execute! (write!).
In the end, in shaa Allah, This won’t be my last article, rather my opening of a bunch more articles in this blog to come. I hope whatever you read here can give benefits to you and make you at least a bit better than you were before! Happy reading.
